Zoo Employee Flood Relief Fund
While we are glad to report that our animals are doing well following our recent weather and subsequent flooding, our hearts are heavy thinking about all our human friends throughout the Baton Rouge area who have lost so much. We are truly touched by those both in Louisiana and across the country, including many from other zoos, who have reached out to us about ways they can support us during this difficult time; it means so much to us that we have such a strong community of people who care deeply about the wellbeing of our animals.
That said, our greatest need now is in helping to support the individuals who look after our animals and maintain their habitats and our Zoo facilities. We are still working to determine the breadth of the impact of recent events on our Baton Rouge Zoo team, their family members and homes, and what exactly that means for us in terms of being able to once again begin operating at full capacity with regard to our human resources – but we do know that many of our animals’ caregivers have been severely impacted, with many of their homes under water.
If you would like to help support our team during this difficult time, please consider donating to our Zoo Employee Flood Relief Fund, by completing the form below. All funds raised will directly support our dedicated and hard-working staff members, some of whom have remained at the Zoo 24/7 since this disaster began – both out of concern for our animals and because they were unable to get home. Any support that you are able to provide means a tremendous amount to us, and we thank you for your ongoing support, whether financial or through words of encouragement for us and our entire community.
Baton Rouge has proven time and again to be resilient and unified, and we know that flood waters cannot wash away our resolve to help one another and come back stronger than before.
