Wattled Crane
Wattled Crane
The function of the "wattles" in the wattled crane is not known. However, the size of the wattles increases during aggression and decreases when the bird is afraid or submissive.
This is the largest and most water-dependant of the African cranes. It is vulnerable to habitat degredation from agriculture and damming of waterways.
