Eastern Screech Owl
Eastern Screech Owl
There are two color phases of eastern screech owls: gray and red. Birds of both colors may be found in a single brood. They usually pair for life; however, they are usually solitary except during the nesting season.
When threatened the screech owl relies on camouflage. It will stretch its body up and pull its feathers tight to its body to look like a broken tree branch.
