Cottonmouth
Cottonmouth
While typically not an aggressive snake the cottonmouth, or water moccasin, will stand its ground. If it is threatened it coils up and gapes, showing its fangs and the white lining of its mouth.
The cottonmouth hunts primarily at night, but can be seen by day basking in the sun.
