Party for the Planet at BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo This month, Zoos and Aquariums across the continent participate in parties for our Earth

April 08, 2013

What better way to celebrate our Earth than honoring the magnificent creatures that inhabit our planet? More than 120 zoos and aquariums across North America are celebrating Earth Day with the 7th annual Party for the Planet. This is the largest combined Earth Day celebration in North America!

The Baton Rouge Zoo's festivities include earth-friendly activities including Safari amphitheater programs, animal encounters and educational family fun. Display boards will teach visitors what plants to use in yards to help our planet and local wildlife, what animals are endangered and why, what's recycled at your Zoo and what global organizations your Zoo supports to help animals in their native habitats.

The event takes place on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regular zoo admission applies. Don't miss out!

About the Zoo:
BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo is a place where people connect with animals, including elephants, giraffes, rhinos and alligators. The world-class Realm of the Tiger is now open featuring highly endangered tigers, Siamang gibbons and beautiful Asian birds. Visitors can enjoy the Flamingo Cove and Giants of the Islands, featuring the Zoo's Chilean flamingos and Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises, as well as the Safari Playground, the Otter Pond, our exhibit featuring a replicated fishing cabin with underwater viewing of the otters, L'aquarium de Louisiane, Parrot Paradise and KidsZoo. Adults and children can ride the Cypress Bayou Railroad on a scenic ride through the unique Louisiana habitat that surrounds the core Zoo. The Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you and a better future for all living things.
