BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo: News Release

August 28, 2012

As Isaac approaches, BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo prepares

BATON ROUGE, La.-BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo will be closed Tuesday, August 28, Wednesday, August 29 and Thursday, August 30.

The Zoo is preparing for Isaac in much the same way people prepare their houses. We are going down our checklist to make sure generators and supplies are ready and that any loose items within the Zoo are secure.

The safety of our animals is always our primary concern. As part of our accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), we are required to have plans for personal injuries, fires, extreme weather or any emergency situation. The Zoo conducts drills for the above situations throughout the year to ensure staff are knowledgeable and prepared for the different situations.

Please visit the Zoo's website at for up-to-date information about closures and facility updates.
