BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo announced September events Family fun at a rhino birthday party, overnight adventures and more!

BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo hosts family-friendly events all month. Don't miss Zuri's second birthday party, become a member or renew your membership in time for Members' Night at the Zoo or stay the night for a truly unique Zoo experience.

Zuri's 2nd Birthday Party

On September 24, 2011, BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo will host a special day for Zuri, the first black rhino born at our Zoo and in the state of Louisiana. The day celebrates rhinos and will educate our visitors about the struggles they face in the wild. The day will also feature a special birthday "cake" for Zuri and live animal shows at our amphitheatre at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. or 225.775.3877 for more information.

Members' Night at the Zoo

Visit the Zoo on Tuesday, September 6, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Members' Night at the Zoo. This special members' appreciation party will include keeper talks, animal encounters and special, behind-the-scenes tours. Zoo & Me Mornings

Held the second Tuesday of every month, this program is designed for 3 to 5-year-old children accompanied by a parent or guardian. Programs are 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and will incorporate many exciting activities including a train ride, animal encounters, art projects, "Zooper" snacks and many other hands-on projects that you and your child can enjoy together. September 13 theme: September Safari. $18/child with one parent or guardian. $30/2 children with one parent or guardian. Pre-registration required. 225.775.3877

Safari Night

Have you ever wondered what the Zoo is like at night? Safari Night programs show you night-life at the Zoo and are available for group reservations on Fridays and Saturdays, year-round. Your Safari Guide will lead your group on walking tours of the Zoo. Designed for your group of 15-30 people, you'll learn all about the Zoo's animals through hands-on activities and animal encounters. All participants receive a Safari Night T-shirt. Enjoy a continental breakfast and the experience of serving breakfast to a Zoo animal!  Cost: $28/person; minimum of 15 people. Pre-registration required. BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo is a place where people connect with animals, including elephants, giraffes, rhinos and alligators. The world-class Realm of the Tiger is now open featuring highly endangered tigers, Siamang gibbons and beautiful Asian birds. Visitors can enjoy the new Flamingo Cove and Giants of the Islands, featuring the Zoo's Chilean flamingos and Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises, as well as the Safari Playground, the Otter Pond, our exhibit featuring a replicated fishing cabin with underwater viewing of the otters, L'aquarium de Louisiane, Parrot Paradise and KidsZoo. Adults and children can ride the Cypress Bayou Railroad on a scenic ride through the unique Louisiana habitat that surrounds the core Zoo. The Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you and a better future for all living things.
