BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo is the place to beat the heat this August with events for the whole family.

Frozen Safari

Visit the Zoo on August 13 as we keep it cool this summer. This special day will focus on animal enrichment and teach visitors what the Zoo does to promote animal wellness on a daily basis. Frozen treats will be available for visitors as well as animals! See our otters enjoy fish-pops, our bears with fruit pops and many more. The first 100 people to the Zoo will receive a coupon for a free frozen treat at the Zoo's Cool Critter Café. Regular Zoo admission applies. or 225.775.3877 for more information.

Zoo Zoom 5K

and ½ Mile Kids' Fun Run

Join Club South at BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo for our sixth annual Zoo Zoom on August 27 at 8:15 a.m. The Kids' ½ Mile Fun Run is at 7:45 a.m. Registration may be completed at or on race day beginning at 6:30 a.m.  Whether you sprint like a cheetah or crawl like a tortoise, this race is for you! Prizes will be awarded to first male and female and in age group categories. 5K: $15 for Club South members, $17 for non-members, $20 for race day registration. ½ Mile Kids' Fun Run: $12 pre-registered, $17 for race day registration. Zoo & Me Mornings

Held the second Tuesday of every month, this program is designed for 3 to 5-year-old children accompanied by a parent or guardian. Programs are 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and will incorporate many exciting activities including a train ride, animal encounters, art projects, "Zooper" snacks and many other hands-on projects that you and your child can enjoy together. $18/child with one parent or guardian. $30/2 children with one parent or guardian. Safari Night

Have you ever wondered what the Zoo is like at night? Safari Night programs show you night-life at the Zoo and are available for group reservations on Fridays and Saturdays, year-round. Your Safari Guide will lead your group on walking tours of the Zoo. Designed for your group of 15-30 people, you'll learn all about the Zoo's animals through hands-on activities and animal encounters. All participants receive a Safari Night T-shirt. Enjoy a continental breakfast and the experience of serving breakfast to a Zoo animal!  Cost: $28/person; minimum of 15 people. Pre-registration required. BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo is a place where people connect with animals, including elephants, giraffes, rhinos and alligators. The world-class Realm of the Tiger is now open featuring highly endangered tigers, Siamang gibbons and beautiful Asian birds. Visitors can enjoy the new Flamingo Cove and Giants of the Islands, featuring the Zoo's Chilean flamingos and Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises, as well as the Safari Playground, the Otter Pond, our exhibit featuring a replicated fishing cabin with underwater viewing of the otters, L'aquarium de Louisiane, Parrot Paradise and KidsZoo. Adults and children can ride the Cypress Bayou Railroad on a scenic ride through the unique Louisiana habitat that surrounds the core Zoo. The Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you and a better future for all living things.
