Why do you want to become a Zoo volunteer?
In your opinion, what do you think are the primary functions of a zoo?

Volunteers are required to volunteer for at least 2 events per year along with 30 hours per year.
For Education Assistants, Keeper Assistants and Horticulture Assistants, there is a one-time training fee of $50 which includes all training materials, a background check, a uniform, a nametag and refreshments.

Upon receipt of this application, you will be contacted to set up a personal interview. Each volunteer must attend an orientation that is conducted once each month. Group training sessions are conducted once each month, but volunteers can train individually according to their schedule. Keeper assistants can volunteer any day of the week from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Education volunteers have a choice of times according to the education schedule. Once fees are paid and orientation is attended there will be no refunds. The volunteer fee is a one-time fee only unless the hourly requirements are not met.


BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo reserves the right to refuse any applicant due to limited space and availability of volunteer placements. BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo also reserves the right to refuse any applicant if the applicant violates any safety or procedural guidelines set forth by BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo Volunteer Program, BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo Administration and BREC’s Administration.
