Q: How can I purchase a membership?
A: There are many ways you can purchase a Zoo membership. Please read the following for processing and activation times. If you purchased your membership:
Your membership is active right away and you can print your receipt to serve as a temporary membership card until your permanent card arrives in the mail. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery of your permanent membership card.
On Zoo grounds:

The temporary card is not useable at other zoos in the reciprocal program. For fastest service, please purchase your membership at the Zoo's front gate or online at brzoo.org.

Q: What is the fastest way to get a membership?
A: Although many options for purchasing a membership exist, the fastest way to obtain a membership is online. Your membership is active right away and you'll get a receipt that will serve as a temporary membership card until your permanent card arrives in the mail. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery of your permanent membership card.
Q: When can I use my membership? Are there blackout dates?
A: Membership is valid for general admission entrance to the Baton Rouge Zoo during regular operating hours all year long. There are no blackout dates or restrictions. Membership includes free admission to Zippity Zoo Fest and Boo at the Zoo. Membership does not cover entrance to other special events, programs, camps or tours. Please call or check the website for specific information about Zoo programs.
Q: Does the membership run a calendar year (January through December) or from the date of purchase?
A: All of our memberships are valid one year from the date of purchase; so if you purchase your membership on April 15, it will be valid until April 30 of the following year.
Q: If I renew early do I lose any time on my membership?
A: No. If you renew early, the extra time will be added to your new membership. For example, if your membership expires 10/31/15 but you renew on 8/30/15, your new membership will not expire until 10/31/16.
Q: How do I buy someone a gift membership?
A: On the membership application there is a section that says, "If this is a gift, please complete:" After filling out all the necessary information you can send in the application through the mail, come by the zoo to make the purchase or submit payment online.
Q: Are gift certificates available?
A: No, gift certificates are not available at this time but gift memberships are.
Q: Can I purchase a membership on the day I visit the Zoo?
A: You can purchase your membership at the Zoo's Main Entrance when you arrive at the Zoo.
Q: If I decide to join after my visit, can I apply the cost of my admission tickets toward my membership?
A: Yes, but you must purchase your membership on the same day that you purchased your tickets and have your receipt. Please note that only those individuals covered by the level of membership you purchase will have their admissions applied to the cost of the membership.
Q: When will I receive my membership cards?
A: You will receive your membership cards within 2-3 weeks. Please call the Friends of the Zoo Membership Office at 225.775.3877 x 6212 or email email@example.com if you haven't received your membership cards after this time period.
Q: Can I visit the Zoo before I receive my cards?
A: If you purchase your membership on Zoo grounds, you will be given a temporary pass that will gain you access to the zoo until you receive your permanent cards in the mail. You may also visit by printing out your receipt from your online membership purchase and presenting it with your photo ID at the front gate.
Q: Can I still use my membership if I left my card at home?
A: Yes, please present your photo ID at the membership window to receive a one-time courtesy lookup and a temporary pass. The next time you visit the Zoo without your membership card or temporary pass, you will be charged a $5 fee for replacement cards.
Q: How many cards are included with my membership?
A: Members at all levels receive two membership cards.
Q: Why do I have to show my ID?
A: To prevent misuse of membership cards, we require that all named adult cardholders present photo ID upon entering the Zoo. We also want to protect our members should cards be lost or stolen.
Q: Can I loan out my membership card to a family member or friend?
A: No, your membership card(s) and associated privileges are not transferable to any other individual. Your membership has a tremendous value. To protect the rights of our members, we will ask to see your photo ID, such as a driver's license, at the time of your visit.
Q: The other named adult is unable to come with me; may I bring a guest in their place?
A: If the adults on your membership are named, only those adults may use the membership card. If you would like to bring additional guests on your membership please consider purchasing the Honorary Keeper membership which allows you to bring 4 additional guests each visit.
Q: What happens if I go to a reciprocal zoo without my current membership card?
A: We recommend calling the zoo or aquarium ahead of time to see what membership they honor. You must have your Baton Rouge Zoo membership card with you in order to be admitted to a reciprocal zoo under our reciprocity agreement. Each zoo is different, and they may only honor the equivalent of our Zoo's Household level. If you do not have your membership card with you, you will have to pay the regular admission fee.
Q: I lost my membership card, how do I get a new one?
A: If you lose your membership card, another one can be purchased for $5. Please call 225.775.3877 x 6212, visit the front entrance of the Zoo or click here to purchase a new card.
Q: How can I change my account information?
A: It is very important that we have your most up-to-date information. If we have old information, you may not receive your members' only newsletter and other important information. You will not be issued a new card if you update your membership information so you will not incur any fees. To update your information please call 225.775.3877 x 6212.
Q: Can I put my membership on hold?
A: No. Memberships become active immediately upon purchase and cannot be suspended.
Q: Can I transfer my membership to someone else?
A: No. Memberships are nontransferable and are valid only for the person named on the card.
Q: What other zoos and aquariums do I have access to with my Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo membership?

Q: Do members receive a discount in the Gift Shop?
A: Yes, there is a 15% discount for members at the Safari Post gift shop.
Q: Does my membership include the train rides?
A: No, the train rides are not included with your membership. However, if you are a Safari Club member you get 4 complimentary train tickets and Director's Club members receive 8 complimentary train tickets per year. Additionally, members at all levels may purchase an annual train pass. For more information on annual train passes, click here.
Q: Does my membership include birthday parties?
A: No, your Zoo membership includes general admission to the Zoo only. There is no discount for members to host a birthday party or to attend a birthday party. There is a fee for each person (for members as well) to enter the party room.
Q: Can I buy an annual train pass for a friend who isn't a member?
A: No, your train pass is directly tied to your membership and so is non-transferrable and not available to non-members.
Q: How do I buy an annual train pass?
A: If purchasing a new membership or renewing a membership, our new online payment forms will ask you during your regular membership transaction. If you want to add a train pass to your existing membership, please click here.
Q: Why does it cost an extra $5 for me to get the pass if I already have a membership?
A: Once you purchase a train pass, it will be indicated on your membership card so that you don't have to keep up with two Zoo cards. Because we will have to trade out your current membership cards with one that shows you purchased a train pass, the extra $5 fee is simply the fee that we would normally charge to reprint your membership cards.
Q: Do I have to stand in line if I have a pass?
A: Yes. Although you won't have to pay for your ride, you will need a physical ticket in order to board the train. This helps us keep track of how many people are on each ride, and of how many people are using our train each year. Train tickets are given first come, first served based on the order of people in line so that all have an equal opportunity to ride.
Q: Can I just stay on the train if I want to ride again instead of getting back in line if I have a pass?
A: No, at the end of each ride, all passengers are required to exit the train. This is for a number of reasons:
- The train driver needs to check the train and make sure it's ready for the next trip
- It allows everyone an equal opportunity to ride the train-there are likely other people waiting in line to get on next!
- You'll need to get a new ticket to board the train so we can keep an accurate count of how many passengers we have on that trip
Q: Can I forgo my train passes that come with my Director's Circle/Safari Club membership and get a discount on the train pass instead?
A: We do not allow members a reduced cost for their membership if they deny certain benefits.
Q: Why isn't this included in my membership free of charge?
A: The train tracks, the train staff and the train itself all have an operating cost. While we are excited to offer this new annual train pass, offering it for free as part of a regular membership would mean that we wouldn't have the adequate operating funds to run the train.
Q: Where does the money made from the train passes go?
A: As with the dues associated with your Friends of the Zoo membership, all train pass funds benefit Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo and ultimately, YOUR Baton Rouge Zoo!
