Double-wattled Cassowary

The cassowary has an inner claw that can be up to 4 inches long. When threatened it can kick out with both feet at one time to protect itself.

The large, tough casque on the top of the cassowary's head is used to push through dense vegitation. It may also act as a signal of dominance since the oldest birds have the largest casques.
