Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo to Hold 10th Annual

August 06 2015

BATON ROUGE, LA. —  Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo will hold their 10th annual Zoo Run Run 5K and ½ Mile Fun Run, presented by Assurance Financial, on Saturday, August 22, with registration opening at 6:30 a.m. Both the children’s fun run and the adult 5K race will take place inside the Zoo.

“We’re very proud to have hit the ten year mark with this race,” said Phil Frost, Zoo Director. “Those who have been coming for the past nine years may remember it as ‘ZooZoom’ but as we mark a decade of hosting this great fundraiser, we thought it was time to give it a brand new name—Zoo Run Run!”

Registration is now open and can be completed online by visiting, at Varsity Sports during early packet pick-up on Friday, August 21, or at the Zoo on race day. Adult pre-registration is $25 and race day registration is $30. Children aged 12 and under may pre-register for $12 or register the day of the race for $17. Prizes will be awarded to first male and female and in age group categories.

All race proceeds support Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo and its conservation efforts for threatened and endangered animals, particularly the cheetah population. The cheetah, the Zoo Run Run mascot, is currently identified as Vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Red List.
