BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo received a sponsorship from Entergy that will support the Project ARK: Animals Reaching Kids program throughout the 2019/2020 school year. Project ARK is offered to grades 1st thru 5th in all schools in East Baton Rouge Parish. This generous Entergy sponsorship allows the program to be presented FREE to these schools.
Project ARK, focuses on STEM education. The program offers off-site services to schools with hands-on encounters with education animal ambassadors & interactive programming that all compliments the existing science curriculum. Options of theme include: Web of Life, Native Neighbors, or Creatures Have Class. The program takes place in November, December, January and February.
Jennifer Shields, Education Curator, said “An example of some of the programs include the Web of Life which delves into what connects us to the planet, students learn how they fit in and how to make the planet a better place. We are thrilled to see the excitement students have as they discover more about science in a format that is fun. Who knows which ones may go on to do great things in the world of conservation because of a spark that was created during Project ARK.”
“We see the value in programs of this type and are thrilled to be able to provide additional opportunities for youth in our local communities to learn about wildlife, habitats, environmental issues, and how we can all be good stewards of this planet. Entergy is committed to STEM education and Project ARK is the perfect fit for that dedication,” said Greg Guilbeau, Senior Customer Service Manager at Entergy.
