BREC’S Baton Rouge Zoo Open on Labor Day
August 29 2017
BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo will be open all weekend, including Monday, September 4th, for Labor Day. Customarily, Labor Day weekend is a busy one at the Zoo while families have a long weekend to enjoy a group outing.
This weekend, the zoo will also be holding a unique celebration as well. On Saturday September 2nd, the Zoo will recognize International Vulture Awareness Day. The Zoo holds in its collection 4 species of vultures, including a King Vulture, Lappet-Faced Vulture, Andean Condor, and Black Vulture.
On Saturday, the Zoo will host a feeding at 10:30am and an enrichment/talk at 2:30pm in the Birds of Prey area of the Zoo. The education department will also fly a black vulture during their amphitheater shows and provide coloring sheets on the theme as well. All of this will be in an effort to help educate audiences about the plight of many vulture species around the globe.
